Very Strange - "Grandpa Compatible Cell Phone"

Here's a bit of a weird product... A headset for your cellphone that is an old-fashioned traditional handset. It is made by Novophone. I just found this product at EntertainmentEarth.com. EntertainmentEarth has some odd, but really fun things.

Here's the write-up on this from EntertainmentEarth.com.

Retro Cell Phone Handset - Make Your Cell Grampa-Compatible

With this cell phone handset, you're bound to turn heads! It's a fun accessory that plugs right in to your mobile phone. Imagine the reaction you'll get while walking down the street talking on an old-fashioned phone! People will think you're crazy! This sturdy, comfortable device is a high-quality product with great sound quality, it may even sound better than the normal speaker on your phone. It plugs right in to any standard 2 1/2-millimeter headset jack, or can be used with an adapter available at fine Electronics stores everywhere. At last, your cellular phone can be used the way telephones were meant to be used!

WestJet's Get Set desktop is for YOU!

Earlier this year WestJet launched a PC-based desktop tool that will tell you when they have great fares to places you want to go. You can customize this application with your home airport and your prefered routes so that you just get information about deals you are interested in. It is a pretty neat application. You can download it from WestJet.

WestJet has just released this for Macs too!

Here's the press release:

WestJet Launches Get Set for Mac Users

NOV 23, 2006 - 18:11 ET

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 23, 2006) - WestJet (TSX:WJA) today announced the launch of Get Set for Mac users, an application that runs directly on a Mac desktop delivering instantaneous information on WestJet flights, vacation packages and hot deals from WestJet partners directly to computers.

"We initially launched Get Set in September for PC users so we are delighted today to be able to offer this great tool to all Mac users. All our guests have different travel needs and busy schedules. With Get Set our guests know when we've found a match for their travel preferences and brings the best WestJet deals and partner specials directly to them." said Dave Jones, WestJet's Director of E-business.

We have had some great feedback from our guests who use a PC, and we are confident that once our Mac guests try Get Set, they will see how easy it is to use and how much time it saves. In addition, the Get Set application provides quick and easy access to popular WestJet travel tools like Web check-in, Flight Reminders, Flight Tracker and flight schedules.

Guests can start planning their next trip by clicking on the "Download" button located at www.westjet.com/getset. When they hear Get Set's "bing bong" seatbelt sound, they will know their trip is just a click away. Now, get ready....Get Set....go!

Marking its tenth anniversary this year, WestJet is Canada's leading low-fare airline offering scheduled service throughout its 33-city North American network. Named Canada's most respected corporation for customer service in 2005, WestJet pioneered low-cost high-value flying in Canada. With increased legroom and leather seats on its modern fleet of Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft, and live seatback television provided by Bell ExpressVu on the majority of its fleet, WestJet strives to be the number one choice for travellers.

Starrytime Custom Kid's Books and Keepsakes

Why Starrytime Books? Starrytime Custom Kid's Books and Keepsakeswill let you create a customized book and blanket for your child, that has a tight connection to you! Besides helping you build an emotionally rich experience that you will share together with your child for years (or forever), the concept behind this venture is pretty cool too!

The Starrytime website features a preview of the book and also the blanket you can create. The images of the book are quite good, and unfortunately the internet hasn't advanced yet to the point where you can feel how nice and soft the blanket is.

When you go to order your book and blanket, be sure to give yourself a good 20 minutes to half-hour to sit down and think about what you want in your book for your child as you work through the order form. You'll be asked things like:

  • Child's name,
  • Blanket colour,
  • Child's birthday,
  • Child's gender,
  • Your personal dedication (take your time to think about this one), and
  • The child's skin colour, hair colour, & hair texture.

Ordering the book is really quite fun and - I found - makes you think a bit more about the child you are ordering for. Even things you take for granted like the waviness of your daughter's hair or the colour of her eyes.

Buying a gift for someone else? Maybe you aren't the proud parent, but you are buying a gift for a friend or relative, and maybe the baby isn't even born yet! Starrytime offers you the option of buying a gift certificate. That way, the child's parent can hit Starrytime's website and customize the book and blanket themselves.

My story: I'm really happy to say that I know the creator and author of this book. Kim Freeman put her heart and soul into creating this fantastic package. Through Starrytime, we have customized books and blankets for both of our daughters. When my oldest daughter got her new book and blanket she pronounced that her faithful old blanket (a.k.a. "yellow") was not necessary anymore, now that she had her new blanket with her name on it.

The last words: If you are looking for a truly unique and very personal gift for your child, then don't miss out! Visit Starrytime Books and order your customized book with a customized blanket. This is a gift that you and your child will treasure forever.

Kicking Horse Coffee

Why Kicking Horse Coffee?
Kicking Horse brews with attitude! This small company was formed in the Kicking Horse Pass in Invermere B.C., Canada, high up in the Canadian Rockies, by two daring entrepreneurs from Montreal - Leo and Elana. They have a passion for coffee that you can smell and taste when you talk to them. They roast blends of organic and Fair Trade coffee, and also sell organic and Fair Trade tea, and organic chocolate. Plus, with coffee names like:

  • Organic 454 Horse Power
  • Organic Cliff Hanger Espresso
  • Organic Grizzly Claw
  • Organic Bugaboo, and
  • (my very favourite) Organic Kick Ass...

how can you not want to buy coffee from Kicking Horse Coffee?

My story:
I never drank coffee until I had my first job out in Vancouver in the early 90's. Then I tried Starbucks. Pretty much literally, there was one on every corner and you couldn't avoid it. I started with the light stuff - steamed milk. Then one day... a mocha. Then onto Lattes. The rest is history.

Now I have my own stainless steel capuccino machine sitting on my kitchen counter. I grind fresh beans almost every couple of days. I have tried a number of different brands of beans. The ones I like best are the ones with the most attitude. Those are the beans from Kicking Horse Coffee. I really like both the 454 Horse Power and Kick Ass. Kick Ass is fun if for no other reason than it is fun just to use material along the lines of "you are what you eat... so today I'm going out to Kick Ass!" I just wish they made some good plastic travel mugs that I could take to work.

WestJet - Fly to Canada and the U.S. with the great service and cheap flights!

Why WestJet?

Well, to start with this company provides one of the greatest customer service experiences you will ever experience. In fact the top 5 reasons for flying WestJet are:

  1. Great Service
  2. New Planes
  3. Comfortable and clean leather seats
  4. Lots of legroom
  5. Live Satellite TV on most planes, and
  6. Great Service! (Oh, I guess that is the sixth reason, and it is not coincidentally the same as the first!)

My story: Between 1996 and 2004, I was a business consultant, and consequently a heavy-duty business traveller. I was logging 2-3 flights a week (mostly short-haul) within Canada for over 2 years. I always booked with other airlines to collect the points. I unwittingly put up with the surly staff - not understanding that flying could be an enjoyable experience. In the end, the points I collected were worth nothing because the other airline had no availability.

Then, I started flying WestJet. They have new planes, more leg-room, live personal TV on most planes, and (WOW) great people providing great service. As a traveller, you don't have to work to get a smile from the staff. In fact, it is the other way round - they work to make you smile.

On one flight, I was on my way home from a particularly gruelling week of work. I almost missed the flight, and I was hot, sweaty, tired, and was generally in a bad mood. On any other carrier you might just expect to be waiting for one of their nasty staff to make some rude comment to you so that you could take out your anger on them. Not the case on WestJet! Before I sat down one of the Flight Attendants helped me get my "pack-for-a-lifetime" carry-on bag stored in the overhead. Before we backed up from the gate, the Flight Attendants told a couple of jokes, and I instantly had a smile on my face. By the time they had finished the saftey routine, I was relaxed and laughing! What a change.

Anyhow, beyond the great people, they also have great planes. WestJet has one of the newest fleets in North America. They fly Boeing 737-600, -700, and -800 planes with leather seats and Live SeatBack TV on most planes. They also have pioneered "more legroom" in the Canadian skys, and the other airlines are all copy-cats on that. If you ever flew on one of their older 737s (the 200s), you'll want to experience the new planes. Now when the Boeing cranks up it feels solid, (relatively quiet), and even comforting as you head down the runway.

In conclusion, if you are a business or leisure traveller, WestJet will make flying fun. They will provide you with a great experience!

The last words: Do you remember the old Remington micro-shaver ads featuring Victor Kiam: "I liked it so much, I bought the company." Well, I liked the travel experience with WestJet so much, as well as all the great lore you hear about the company that I knew I wanted to work there. So, I'm happy to admit that I'm now a WestJet employee. "I liked it so much, I bought the company." Okay - not the whole company, but I am a WestJet owner! Even if I wasn't a WestJet employee and owner, I'd still recommend this company to anyone who wants to fly within Canada or trans-border between the US and Canada.

Fly to Canada and the U.S. in comfortable new jets with Live TV. Enjoy the best customer service in town. Westjet.com for less!

Introduction

Welcome to my Blog!
In this blog I intend to recommend products and services that I am only too happy to recommend. These are things that I'm passionate about.

I'm sort of curious as to where else this blog might lead. I'm starting out with a desire to build out a blog of my recommendations. But, I know that from time to time I might just end up providing some other crazy opinions.

One of the best pieces of advice I ever heard was "if you find a company whose product or service you love, you should invest in it". Now, I'm no investor, and that certainly isn't investment advice to live by. But, maybe if you like my advice you might track down the product or service I'm recommending and try it out too.
